The Costa Rica International Jazz Festival is on and there are a lot of performances at Teatro Eugene O'Neil. There is also a quilt show at Teatro Eugene O'Neil. We went to see the quilt show and get some info on performances of the Jazz Festival. The show is quite remarkable. It features two quilters, one from Costa Rica and one from Hawaii. My mother-in-law is a very fine quilter and I know a little about what goes into building one. These are incredible works. With a use of color that could only come from the tropics...now, lets see...quilts...tropics...quilts...tropics. Oh well, it's an art form, not for practical use. That evening we went to hear a jazz band from Israel. For the most part very unremarkable. But when they took Jewish tunes and played with them it was something very special. New. Unusual. Nothing I've every heard before. THOSE works swung. THOSE works had soul. THOSE works came from the heart, not just the page. THOSE works made the concert stand out. Guess one should stick to what one knows.
