Searching for
Boyero

Dia Nacional de Boyero Last year I missed a big festival in Iscazu. Heard about it in my Spanish class. Big festival of the carts in Iscazu. Later I read about it in the paper. There was some concern that perhaps that would be the last year. It just was getting too expensive to maintain those enormous animals when they were often only used once a year...and for a parade. So I was pleased to hear that once again it would be held. The paper said that the parade was to start at 8:30am. So Deb and I left the house at 9 for the bus...that takes us to the bus...that takes is to where we think we get the bus for where we think the parade will be. Not too unexpectedly we got there just about when things were about to start. I was surprised to see how many carts and animals there were. Many more than I expected. It was also great to see the number of children that were participating. It must be a great honor for them to ride in the carts. And in many cases on the backs of the animals. There was also an annual arts fair going on in town, next to the "metal building". Deb and I spent some time there after returning to town. This is the last day Deb will be in town before leaving for the east coast to visit Esther. Something she's been looking forward to for some time...a mother-daughter thing. I stay "home". But I have adventures planned for my time. So this was a good way to spend the day for her. A very Costa Rican day...
