Searching for SplitWe stayed at an airBnB in Split. We had a great apartment with a balcony where we ate our breakfasts. The owners of the house lived there with the wife's mother. A delightful old woman who spoke no English. She spoke Croatian and Italian, and we spoke nether. But we were able to communicate just fine.
There was a nice restaurant down at the marina (where Deb could get her greens), and there was a futbol field just across the road. Just past that there was a beach where you could swim.
Split is built on the ruins of an old Roman palace. We walked to town to fine the old palace. It's a whole different world to be in a city build around structures that are thousands of years old. Most of the Old City was re-constructed and was a great place to explore.
From the city of Split one can take a ferry to the island of Hvar. It's a place where the mega-rich like to party. It's also the location of a monastery. Life is full of interesting contradictions.
We wandered around looking at churches, and then stopped for lunch, and returned to Split. |
